Free T4

Free T3
This marker is a thyroid hormone that plays a crucial role in metabolism and energy regulation. Irregularities in free T3 levels can affect sleep-wake cycles and overall sleep quality.
TSH
This marker is produced by the pituitary gland and stimulates the thyroid gland to produce thyroid hormones. Abnormal TSH levels can indicate thyroid dysfunction, which can affect sleep patterns.
Vitamin D
This test measures the level of vitamin D in the blood. Vitamin D deficiency has been associated with sleep disorders, including sleep apnoea and restless leg syndrome.
Ferritin:
Ferritin is a protein that stores iron in the body. Measuring ferritin levels can indicate how much iron your body is storing. Iron deficiency (low ferritin levels) can lead to a condition called restless legs syndrome (RLS). RLS is characterised by uncomfortable sensations in the legs, particularly at night when resting or sleeping. These sensations can disrupt sleep, making it difficult to fall asleep or stay asleep, leading to sleep disturbances and fatigue.
Total Iron-Binding Capacity (TIBC):
TIBC measures the blood’s capacity to bind with iron and transport it through the bloodstream. High TIBC levels may suggest a deficiency of iron, as the body tries to increase its iron-carrying capacity. Iron deficiency anaemia, indicated by elevated TIBC and low iron levels, can lead to fatigue and weakness. These symptoms may contribute to daytime sleepiness and poor sleep quality.

Bilirubin (Direct and Indirect):
Bilirubin is a pigment produced when the liver breaks down old red blood cells. It’s measured in direct and indirect forms. Severe liver conditions that result in high bilirubin levels, such as hepatitis or liver cirrhosis, can lead to symptoms like fatigue and discomfort. These symptoms may affect sleep quality and overall well-being.
AST (Aspartate Aminotransferase) and ALT (Alanine Aminotransferase):
AST and ALT are enzymes found primarily in the liver. They are markers of liver health and can indicate liver damage or disease when elevated. Similarly to bilirubin, AST and ALT levels themselves are not directly related to sleep. However, liver conditions that result in elevated enzyme levels can lead to physical discomfort, fatigue, and overall health issues that may indirectly affect sleep

A folate blood test can identify deficiencies that might be contributing to poor sleep quality or other health issues indirectly affecting sleep.
